REMOVING/INSTALLING DRIVE WHEEL HUB (FIGURE 1)

NOTE: This procedure can only be performed on sec-

ond generation storm wheelchairs with the conven-

tional motor/gearbox assembly. On second genera-

E

tion storm wheelchairs with the gearless/brushless

L

motor, the drive wheel hub CANNOT be removed.

SReturn motor to manufacturer for service.

M Removing

O1. Remove the drive wheel from the wheelchair. Refer to

TREMOVING/INSTALLING DRIVE WHEELS in this

Oprocedure of the manual.

R2. Remove the locknut, washer, keystock and existing

Sdrive wheel hub from the drive shaft of the gearbox.

Installing

1. Position the keystock on the gearbox drive shaft.

CAUTION

DONOTapplymorethanaone(1)-inch(inlength) thin film of anti-seize compound to the drive shaft. Applying more than one (1)-inch (in length) can cause the anti-seize compound to leak resulting in damage to flooring (carpet, tile, etc.).

2.Apply a thin film of anti-seize compound one (1) inch in length to the end of the drive shaft.

3.Reinstall drive wheel hub onto the gearbox drive shaft.

NOTE: While installing the drive wheel hub onto the drive shaft, spin the drive wheel hub to evenly distribute the anti- seize compound over the entire drive shaft.

4.Reinstall the washer and locknut and torque locknut to 45 foot pounds (540-inch pounds).

5.Reinstall the drive wheel assembly to the wheelchair. RefertoREMOVING/INSTALLINGDRIVEWHEELS in this procedure of the manual.

6.Repeat procedure for the opposite side of the wheel- chair, if necessary.

INSTALLING WHEEL LOCK BRACKET ONTO WHEELCHAIR (FIGURE 2)

NOTE: This procedure only pertains to second gen- eration storm wheelchairs with the conventional mo- tor and gearbox. On second generation storm wheel- chairs with the gearless/brushless motor, the wheel lock bracket is not required.

1.Removethetwo(2)mountingscrewsclosesttothelarge wheel that secure the gearbox to the suspension arm.

2.Lineupmountingholesinthewheellockmountingbracket with the gearbox mounting holes in the suspension arm.

3.Apply Loctite 242 to the two (2) mounting screws.

4.Reinstall the two (2) mounting screws into the mounting holes of the wheel lock mounting bracket and gear box and torque to 75-inch pounds.

5.Repeat STEPS 1-4 for opposite wheel lock bracket.

6.Adjust the wheel locks. Refer to ADJUSTING WHEEL LOCKS in PROCEDURE 9 of the owner’s manual, 1081227.
