3.5.5 Automatic Restart (Optional)
Starting and restarting the Series 610 is normally a manual procedure. However, for some unat-
tended sites, it is desirable to enable the module to restart itself and retransfer the load back to UPS
power following an extended utility outage.
When the Automatic Restart option is installed in the UPS and enabled through the System Options
screen, the following conditions must be met before the UPS will initiate the procedure:
• The shutdown must have been caused solely by reaching end of battery capacity during an
extended outage and
• There must be no hardware alarm conditions.
Enabling Automatic Restart
At the Master Menu screen, use the Up or Down pads to highlight System Options and press Select.
At the System Options screen, move the cursor to Automatic Restart and press Select. Use the Up or
Down pad to select Enabled (or Disabled) as needed and press Select.
Sequence of Operation
When input power returns to the system, the UPS verifies the conditions specified above. If the condi-
tions are true, the sequence is as follows:
1. The UPS will display the Mimic screen, wait five seconds and test the values for input and bypass
voltages.
2. If good, the Auto Restart Initialization alarm and horn will activate, a 2.5-minute duration timer
will start and a signal is sent to the hardware to proceed with start-up.
3. For 60 seconds after sounding the horn, the UPS will wait to allow the operator (if present) to
clear the unit. During this time, the operator can stop the restart process by changing the on-
screen configuration or pressing the EPO button.
4. The hardware proceeds with the startup after 60 seconds. The UPS input breaker will close,
beginning the rectifier walk-in sequence. The Auto Restart Initialization alarm and horn are
turned off. The UPS bypass breaker will also close, supplying bypass power to the connected load.
5. When the DC bus has reached full voltage and the inverter has started, the UPS will signal the
battery circuit breaker to close. The rectifier/charger will then begin recharging the batteries.
6. If there are no alarms at this point, the UPS will transfer the load to the inverter by closing the
output breaker and opening the bypass breaker. The Automatic Restart circuit will now perform
cleanup and go idle.
7. If the UPS encounters a problem during the sequence, the procedure is halted and the Auto
Restart Failed sequence begins. The Auto Restart Failed alarm is displayed and autodialed (if the
UPS is so equipped). The Auto Restart circuit is disabled until an operator can investigate.
