UPnP Standards and Your Wireless Base Station

The Microsoft Wireless Base Station adheres to the UPnP™ standards that are defined by the Universal Plug and Play Forum. UPnP standards allow devices on the network to communicate their capabilities to the base station by using a common vocabulary.

UPnP standards also allow you to use many programs (like instant messaging programs and multiplayer games) on your network without having to go through a complicated configuration process.
