9.1ERRORMESSAGESDISPLAYEDON THE SCREEN

Somemessagesprovideinformationaboutthe papersupplyin the cassette or the conditionof theEP-Lcartridge.Othershaveto do withfontsor emu- lations.

Anotherway of consideringerrorsis that someof themresultfrom failures in hardwareor software Othererrorsa~ functional,meaningthateitherthe printer operator or the host computerhas commandedthe controller to perform an operationthat is beyondits designedcapabilities.

If the printermalfunctionsfor somereason,warningmessageswill appear onthescreen,recommendingwhatactionyoushouldtake.Themostserious aremessagesthattellyouto callfor repairservice.Somemessagesconcern less seriousconditionsthatcanbe handledby theprinteroperator.Informa- tionmessagesrelatea communicationproblemwiththe hostcomputer,but do not affectthe printer’soperation.Thesemessagesa~ summarizedhere.
