Replacing PROM Chips

Replace PROM Follow these steps to replace a PROM chip:

Action

1Remove the card from the nest or enclosure.

2Loosen and remove the four screws that hold the FLASH module to the 6500PLUS processor card (Figure 2-22).

3Carefully lift the FLASH module from the 6500PLUS processor card.

You may have to wiggle the card until the header pins disengage from the socket.

4Locate the PROMs as shown in Figure 2-22.Note the location of the notch on each chip and, using a standard chip-puller, remove the PROMs.

This will help you orient the new chips.

Note

Not all four PROM sockets may have PROMs.

5Insert the new PROMs into the sockets. Be sure that they are oriented the same way as the old chips.

6Place the FLASH module on the 6500PLUS processor card. Insert the header pins into the socket.

The pins should seat firmly into the socket, but be careful not to bend the pins.

7On the other side of the 6500PLUS processor card, use four screws to secure the FLASH module to the 6500PLUS processor card.

Do not overtighten the screws or you may damage the 6500PLUS processor card.
