User Shading
The User Shading function provides adjustments to improve image quality. Perform shading adjustment if
the image quality has deteriorated and does not improve even after cleaning inside the scanner. To
perform shading adjustment, you will need a sheet of the special shading paper that is included with the
scanner. See also Appendix 3—Shading Adjustment” on page130.
1. Click the User Shading button on the User Utility window.
2. Click the Start Shading button on the User Shading dialog box. The User Shading utility will
guide you through the necessary steps.
3. Clean the inside of the scanner, refer to Cleaning Inside the Scanner” on page73. When
finished, click OK.
4. Turn over both the front and back reference plates to white, refer to Changing the Background
Color” on page 69. When finished, click OK. (The “please reverse” message will not appear if
the reference plates are already set to white.)
