Document Preparation

Prepare the documents you want to scan according to the guidelines and recommendations in this section.

General Guidelines

Do not scan official documents or copyrighted material:

Do NOT scan currency.

Do NOT scan copyrighted material or the work of others except for private use or when authorized by the copyright owner or owners.

Do NOT scan certificates, licenses, passports, or official or private documents except when such work is authorized.

Guidelines for Using the ADF

For best results, follow these guidelines for documents that will be scanned using the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder):

Caution

Prior to scanning with the ADF, remove all staples and paper clips from sheets.

Recommended paper: Plain paper with a maximum sheet thickness of 2.0 to 5.9 mils (0.05 to 0.15 mm) and weight of 10.6 to 34 pounds (40 to 127 grams/meter2). 1 mil = 1/1000 inch. The weight in pounds of paper represents the weight of 500 sheets in the “basic sheet size” of the paper, in this case 17 x 22 inches (432 x 559 mm). The basic sheet size is not the same for all types of paper.

Acceptable document size for the ADF:

1.90 - 11.70 inches (40 - 297 mm)

2.75 - 25.00 inches (70 - 635 mm)
