max-hops

Configures the maximum number of hops for a Bridge Protocol Data Unit (BPDU) in an MSTP

region.

Synopsis

max-hops hop_count

no max-hops

Operands

hop_count

Specifies the maximum number of hops for which the BPDU will be valid. The

range of valid values is 1-40.

Defaults

The default is 20 hops.

Command

Protocol Spanning Tree MSTP mode

Modes

Description

Use this command to configure the maximum number of hops for a BPDU in an MSTP region. This

parameter is used by all the instances of the MSTP. Use the no max-hopscommand to return to the

default value.

Usage

Specifying the maximum hops for a BPDU prevents the messages from looping indefinitely on the

Guidelines

interface. When you change the number of hops, it affects all spanning-tree instances.

Examples

To set the number of maximum hops to 25 for all MSTPs:

switch(config)#protocol spanning-tree mstp

switch(conf-mstp)#max-hops 25
