Chapter 37 Configuring Quality of Service
Configuring QoS on Supervisor Engine 6-E, Supervisor Engine 6L-E, Catalyst 4900M, and Catalyst 4948E
0 Input Policers and 16 K Output Policers
2 K Input Policers and 14 K Output Policers
4 K Input Policers and 12 K Output Policers
6 K Input Policers and 10 K Output Policers
8 K Input Policers and eight K Output Policers
10 K Input Policers and six K Output Policers
12 K Input Policers and four K Output Policers
14 K Input Policers and two K Output Policers
16 K Input Policers and zero Output Policers
These numbers represent individual policer entries in the hardware that support a single-rate and burst
parameter. Based on this, Catalyst 4900M, Catalyst 4948E, Supervisor Engine 6-E, and Supervisor
Engine 6L-E support the following number of policers:
16 K Single Rate Policer with Single Burst (Two Color Marker)
8 K Single Rate Three Color Marker (srTCM)
8 K Two Rate Three Color Marker (trTCM)
These policers are partitioned between input and output in chunks of 2 K policer banks. The different
types of policers can all co-exist in the system. However, a specific type of policer (srTCM, trTCM) is
configurable as a block of 128 policers.
Implementing Policing
For details on how to implement the policing features on a Catalyst 4500 series switch, refer to the
Cisco IOS documentation at the following link:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/ios/12_2/qos/configuration/guide/qcfpolsh.html
Platform Restrictions
Platform restrictions include the following:
Multi-policer actions can be specified (setting CoS and IP DSCP is supported).
Simultaneous unconditional and policer-based marking is not supported.
If policer-based service-policy is attached to both a port and a VLAN, port-based policed is
preferred by default. To override a specific VLAN policy on a given port, then you must configure
a per-port per-VLAN policy.
When you delete a port channel with a per-port per-VLAN QoS policy, the switch crashes.
Before deleting the port channel, do the following:
Remove any per-port per-VLAN QoS policies, if any.
Remove the VLAN configuration on the port channel with the no vlan-range command.
