Procedure 7 is used for 1.4.y to 2.x, and 2.4.y to 3.x.
Step 1 Check compatibility.
With any downgrade technique, there is a lway s t he issue of compatibility. Any release c an b e
downgraded to any othe r release, but in many in s tan c e s configuration infor m at io n will be lost.
Hardware incompatibilities can p r event s om e d owng ra de s. F or exa mple, Release 2 and Release 3
service modules require two Flash chips. Release 4 SMs will be shipped with a single Flash chip. A
Release 4 shelf containing BNM-E1 ca rds or serv ice re sour ce modu le 3T3 c ards cann ot be do wn grade d
to Release 2 or Release 3. C heck the compatibility m at ri x to d etermine if a particular down g ra de is
supported and how it affects configurat io n lo s s.
Step 2 Enter the dspadrcxat command. Note the value of th e C o nn N u m OfValidEntries p a ra m e te r.
This value indicates the number of connections. This command is run again at the end of the procedure
to ensure that the number of co nnec tions has not changed.
Step 3 For all stand-alone and primary SM s
a. Enter the dsptotals command.
The configuration of the shelf should not be changed during the downgrade process. Use this step
to examine the number of lines, ports, and channels before the upgrade or downgrade. A similar
step can be made to examine the same configuration parameters after the upgrade or downgrade
and, therefore, it can be estab li she d that the configuration has rema ined the same.

new boot code into the ASC.
c. Enter the chkflash command. This command ca lculates and compares the Flash ch ecksum to verify
whether the boot code is correct.
d. Enter the version command. This command displays the version of the boot code currently stored
in Flash memory. This ste p dow nloads new firmware int o th e ASC.
e. Enter the tftp put <ASC_FW_file> AXIS_ASC_ACTIVE.FW command.
f. Check the file size of the download ed firmw ar e. Use this step to check that the fir mw ar e w as
downloaded successfully to the ASC disk.
g. Enter the dspfwrevs command to verify the correct firmware revision.
Step 4 For all SMs
a. Enter the tftp put <SM_BT_file> AXIS_SM_1_$slot.BOOT command.
b. Enter the chkflash command. This command ca lculates and compares the Flash ch ecksum to verify
