MGX 8220 Service Modules
Introduction
The MGX8220 shelf contains 16 slots. Each slot can accommodate a front card and a back card. Six
slots are reserved for common eq uipm ent modules as described in Ch ap te r 2, Common Equipment
Description.
The remaining ten slots (sl ots 5 through 14) are reser ved for Service Modules (SM s). Service Modules
provide functionality for s uc h s er vi ces as Frame Relay, ATM, and Circuit Emulation .

Although Service Resource M odu les (SR M s ) ar e c ategorized as core equipment, th ey a lso p ro vide
optional functions for the SMs.
The AX-SRM T1/E1 can provide 1:N redundancy for the other service modules. The SRM is
