Installing The System Board

CAUTION: Many repairs may only be done by a certified service technician. You should only perform troubleshooting and simple repairs as authorized in your product documentation, or as directed by the online or telephone service and support team. Damage due to servicing that is not authorized by Dell is not covered by your warranty. Read and follow the safety instructions that came with the product.

1.Unpack the new system board assembly.

2.Using the memory riser guide, lower the system board into the chassis.

CAUTION: Do not lift the system board assembly by grasping a memory module, processor, or other components.

NOTE: When installing the system board into the chassis, ensure not to damage the optical drive cable connector that is mounted to the front of the system board.

3.Push the system board toward the back of the chassis until the release pin on the board clicks into place.

NOTE: Ensure the two tabs at the back of chassis are placed properly in the slots.

4.Install the following:

a.power supply bay unit with PDBs (2)

b.power supply(s)

c.NDC riser (I/O riser 1)

d.expansion-card risers, expansion cards/integrated storage controller

e.processor heat sinks/heat sink blanks, as applicable

f.processors/processor blanks, as applicable

g.fan tray

h.memory riser and fan cage

i.memory risers (8)
