SAS/SATA Backplane Board

Removing the SAS/SATA Backplane Board

CAUTION: Only trained service technicians are authorized to remove the system
cover and access any of the components inside the system. See your Product
Information Guide for complete information about safety precautions, working
inside the computer, and protecting against electrostatic discharge.

Turn off the system and attached peripherals, and disconnect the system
from the electrical outlet.

Open the system. See "Opening the System" on page 71.

If present, disconnect the optical drive power cable from the SAS/SATA
backplane board. See "Removing the Optical Drive from the System" on
page109.

Open the drive-carrier release handle on each hard drive and partially
extend the drive(s) out of their drive bays. See "Removing a Hot-Plug Hard
Drive" on page 74.

Remove the storage controller daughter card. See "Removing a SAS
Controller Daughter Card" on page86.

Disconnect the SAS cable from the backplane connector.

Disconnect the power cable from the backplane connector.

Disconnect the optical drive power cable from the backplane connector.

Remove the sideplane board. See "Removing the Sideplane Board" on
page127.

Remove the SAS/SATA backplane board:
a
Pull the backplane board release pin. See Figure3-30.
b
While pulling the release pin, tilt the backplane board toward the back
of the system.

Lift the backplane board from its securing tabs and remove the
backplane board from the chassis.
