Removing the I/O Panel

1Follow the procedures in "Before You Begin" on page 139.

CAUTION: Your computer is heavy (it has an approximate minimum weight of 55 lbs) and can be difficult to maneuver. Seek assistance before attempting to lift, move, or tilt it; this computer requires a two-man lift. Always lift correctly to avoid injury; avoid bending over while lifting. See your Product Information Guide for other important safety information.

CAUTION: The computer stand should be installed at all times to ensure maximum system stability. Failure to install the stand could result in the computer tipping over, potentially resulting in bodily injury or damage to the computer.

2Remove the computer cover (see "Removing the Computer Cover" on page 141).

3Remove any full-length expansion cards (see "Removing an Expansion Card" on page 202).

4If a graphics riser card is installed, remove it: a Remove its four screws.

b Disconnect its power cable.

c Move it slightly up and to the right at an angle to free it from the card fan and the memory-riser support structure.

d Set the riser aside.

5Loosen the captive thumbscrews that secure the memory shroud and lift to remove it from the computer.

6Disconnect the speaker cable from the system board.

7Disconnect the front fan and the card fan from the system board.

8Unscrew the two screws that hold the processor and card fan case in place and lift it away from the computer.

9Disconnect the control-panel cable from the I/O panel connector by pulling with the cable loop.

NOTICE: Carefully note the routing of each cable before you disconnect it, so that you are sure to re-route cables correctly. An incorrectly routed or a disconnected cable could lead to computer problems.

10Note the routing of each cable as you disconnect all cables attached to the I/O panel.
