transaction processing, large-scale data warehousing, and scientific simulations are some of the applications that Datacenter is optimized for.

Datacenter Server features include:

￿Support for 32 processors

￿Supports up to 32 GB of memory

￿Four node cluster support

￿Supports Network Load Balancing (NLB) with a maximum 32 nodes

￿Supports WinSock Direct high-speed inter-process communications

Datacenter Server will initially be supported on four-way and eight-way x440 configurations in one, two, three, and four cluster node configurations and on a 16-way configuration in a one cluster node configuration.

The IBM Datacenter Solution includes Microsoft-certified hardware, the Windows Datacenter Server operating system, and a set of standard and optional services, the latest of these being a Software Update Subscription, to provide updates designed to keep the Datacenter Solution at the latest levels.

The subscription for an eight-way configuration is 4816-ABX, and for 16-way, 4816-ADX.

The Software Update Subscription provides periodic updates to the Windows 2000 Datacenter operating system, which you license for a period of one year. This subscription also includes IBM updates to firmware and device drivers certified by Microsoft for use with the Datacenter solution. IBM builds, tests, and provides the complete certified package of these components.
