4.1.3 Enabling Hyper-Threading
Hyper-Threading technology allows a single processor to execute two separate
instruction threads concurrently, effectively operating as two separate logical
processors. The installed operating system sees these logical processors as two
separate physical processors. This is demonstrated in Figure4-8 on page 118.
There are a number of important factors to consider before enabling
Hyper-Threading. These considerations are discussed in detail in 3.5, Operating
system considerations on page 90. It is important to fully understand the
Tip: In a server with two SMP Expansion Modules installed, it is possible to
enable memory mirroring in only one SMP Expansion Module; however,
we do not recommend this configuration.
