Datacenter 16-way fixed configurations can be achieved in two ways:

￿New Datacenter configuration

Customers can purchase the complete solution directly from IBM through the Special Bid program, or through the EXAct Business Partner program.

When using the Special Bid program, IBM will perform an expert Solutions Assurance Review. If the solution is obtained through a Business Partner, they will perform this review.

￿Datacenter Upgrade Path

Upgrades to x440 16-way fixed configuration Datacenter can be accomplished in two ways:

Option 1: Customers who already have a Windows 2000 Advanced Server on an 8687-1RX, 2RX, 3RX, can upgrade to Datacenter by doing the following:

Upgrade the system to meet Datacenter HCL

Add a second RX model (also meeting Datacenter HCL criteria) or AX model

Add the 1-16 processor License Kit, model number 4816-1DU

Add the Software Update Subscription, model number: 4816-ADX

Add RAM so the total memory is 8 GB (4 GB in each system)

Option 2: Customers who already own an eight-way Datacenter configuration (Table 3-3 on page 94) can upgrade to 16-way by doing the following:

Add second RX (also meeting Datacenter HCL criteria) or AX model

Add the 9-16 processor License Kit, model number 4816-12U

Add the Software Update Subscription, model number: 4816-ADX

Add RAM so the total memory is 8 GB (4 GB in each system)

Notes:

￿All processors must be identical for 16-way configurations.

￿A minimum of 8 GB of RAM must be installed in each x440.

All x440 16-way Datacenter Server configurations also require a Support Line contract or maintenance agreement.

3.5.2 Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Enterprise Edition

Hyper-Threading is not supported by Windows NT 4.0 EE, which has not been enhanced to exploit Intel's ACPI. This operating system is therefore unable to recognize logical processors, which are simply ignored. The eight logical
