hardware changes and that resources such as PCI slots in an RXE-100 can be shared between the two partitions.

System Partition Manager is an IBM Director plug-in utility that IBM will be releasing with IBM Director 4.1. The agent component will initially be supported on the following operating systems:

￿Windows 2000

￿Windows .NET

￿Red Hat Linux Advanced Server 2.1

￿VMware ESX Server

Components will also be installed on the IBM Director server and all IBM Director consoles.

System Partition Manager uses the following terms:

￿Node — Functionally equivalent to an x440. Also referred to by Active PCI Manager as a chassis.

￿Remote I/O Enclosure — An RXE-100 for example.

￿Partition — A node or group of nodes configured as a single server, with their attached Remote I/O Enclosures (if present). The smallest partition is a single x440 server.

￿Complex — A group of up to four nodes and their attached Remote Expansion Enclosures. A complex can be subdivided into partitions, or can be one big partition.

Table 5-3 shows examples of partitions.
