Harddiskpasswords
Twotypesofharddiskpasswordshelpprotecttheinformationstoredontheharddiskdrive:
•Userharddiskpassword
•Masterharddiskpassword,whichrequiresauserharddiskpassword
Ifauserharddiskpasswordhasbeenset,butnomasterharddiskpasswordhasbeen,theusermustenter
theuserharddiskpasswordinor dertogainaccesstolesandapplicationsonthehar ddiskdrive.
Themasterpasswordcanbesetandusedonlybyasystemadministrator.Likeamasterkey,itenablesthe
administratortogetaccesstoanyhar ddiskdriveinasystem.Theadministratorsetsthemasterpassword;
nooneelseknowsit.Thentheadministratorsetsauserpasswordforeachcomputerinthenetwork,and
tellseachuserthepasswordforhisorhercomputer.Theusercanthenchangetheuserpasswordas
desired,buttheadministratorstillcangetaccessbyusingthemasterpassword.
Note:Whenamasterharddiskpasswordisset,onlytheadministratorcanremovetheuserharddisk
password.
