Walking or driving very slowly may also
substantially reduce GPS perform ance.
Even where locatio n information can be
calculated in such situations, it may take much
longer to do so, and your loca tion estimate may
not be as accurate. Therefore, in any 91 1 call,
always report the locat ion to the emergency
response center if you can and if you cannot,
remain on your phone for as lo ng as the
emergency response ce nter instructs you.
Even where adequate signals from multiple
satellites are available, your GPS fe ature will
only provide an approximate loc ation, often
within 150 feet (45 meters) but sometimes much
further from your actual location. Advice on how
to improve GPS performance is provided in
“Enhancing GPS Performance” o n page 123.
While the GPS featu re of your phone can b e a
valuable navigation al aid, it does not re place the
need for careful na vigating and good judg ment.
Never rely solely on one devic e for navigation.
Remember that the accuracy of the location
information and the t ime needed to obtain it will vary
depending on circum stances, particula rly the ability
to receive signals from adequate numbers of
satellites.
On emergency calls, your phone uses assistance
information from the phone netwo rk to improve the
speed and accuracy of your phone’s loc ation
calculation: if such assistance information becomes
unavailable, it may reduce the speed and accuracy
of the location calculation.
The satellites used by the GPS feature of your
phone are controlle d by the U.S. governm ent and
are subject to changes implemented in accordance
with the Department of Defens e GPS user policy
and the Federal Radi onavigation Plan. The se
changes may affect the perf ormance of the GPS
feature of your phone.

center. If you are on a n active call, you must end it
before calling 911.
When you make an em ergency 911 call, th e GPS
feature of your phone begins to see k in f orm a t io n to
calculate your approximate location. It will take the
GPS feature of your phone some ti me to
determine your approximate location. Even
where your phone has good acc ess to sufficient
