Installing sm_query from an Embedded Product CD

NOTE: sm_query only runs on Linux hosts.

1.From the 9000 product CD, copy the file sm_query to the desired directory on a Linux host.

NOTE:The host needs only an Ethernet connection to the Fabric Manager node. No InfiniBand connection is necessary.

2. cd to that directory and issue the command chmod +x sm_query.

Running sm_query Quick Start

For the Embedded Fabric Manager

NOTE: The user will need the IP address of the switch running the Fabric Manager.

1. Determine the read and write SNMP community names for the switch.

NOTE: This information can also be accessed through the Chassis Viewer. Please refer to “Set Community Strings” on page 2-30.

a.Log into the switch via Telnet or SSH

b.Issue the command snmpCommunityConf and press Enter

c.. The system displays information similar to the following: -> snmpCommunityConf

Read Only Comm. Name: public

Read/Write Comm. Name: private

The default community names are public (read-only access) and private (read-write access). The private community name is only used when modifying the subnet manager configuration.

2.Issue the command sm_query -d <IP ADDRESS> -c community -i 1 smShowConfig and press Enter.

NOTE: For the embedded Fabric Manager, the -iparameter should always be '1'.

NOTE: To display a full list of available commands and parameters enter sm_query -h.
