Minimizing network latency
This topic details steps you can take if your client’s programis slow or unresponsiveduring a
meeting.Latency, the time lag between sendinga message to a remote computerand receiving a
response, can cause noticeableperformance issues in SMART Bridgit software.
Symptoms
lConnectingto the SMART B ridgitServer takes a long time.
lThesc reenupdates slowly when you view a shared desktop.
lSMART Bridgit software doesn’trespond to your mouseor keyboard when you use remote
control.
Solution
Try thef ollowingto t roubleshoot network latency issues:
lVerify that you're usingTCP and UDP network protocols. See Verifying communication
protocolon the next page.
lCheck if you're connectingt hrougha proxy server. SeeSMAR TBridgitand firewalls on page
11.
lCheck your networkbandwidth. See Examples of bandwidth requirements on page54.
lMeasurelatency and packet loss rate. See Measuringlatency and packet loss on the next
page.
Other suggestions
Becauseyou have limited control over the network outsideof y ourLAN, you have limited controlover
networklatency is sues. However, you might be ableto i mprovethe connection betweenyour LAN
andyour Internet Service Provider(ISP).
Youcan try these options:
lReadthe specifications of your serverand client computer Ethernetc ardthroughputrates.
Also, check your network device rates. If they're low, upgradet hehardware.
