CHAPTER

This chapter describes the different ways to receive faxes. It also explains how to set the receive mode and to cancel the documents the machine is receiving.

Setting the Receive Mode

Follow this procedure to set the receive mode:

Press [Menu].

(-)] or [

(+)] to select <FAX SETTINGS> press [OK].

Press [

(-)] or [

(+)] to select <RECEIVE MODE> press [OK].

Press [

(-)] or [

(+)] to select the receive mode press [OK].

You can select from the following:

-<FaxOnly> to automatically receive faxes, all calls will be answered as fax transmission. Voice calls will then be disconnected. (See "Receiving Faxes Automatically: FaxOnly Mode," on p. 5-1.)

-<FaxTel> to automatically switch between fax and voice calls. Faxes will be received automatically, and the machine will ring for voice calls. (See "Receiving Both Faxes and Voice Calls Automatically: FaxTel Mode," on p. 5-2.)

-<AnsMode> to receive faxes automatically and route voice calls to an answering machine connected to the machine. (See "Receiving When an Answering Machine Is Connected: AnsMode," on p. 5-3.)

-<Manual> for the connected telephone to ring for fax and voice calls. Fax calls must be answered manually. (See "Receiving Faxes Manually: Manual Mode," on p. 5-4.)

NOTE

If you set <MAN/AUTO SWITCH> to <ON> in <FAX SETTINGS> of the Menu, the machine will receive faxes automatically even when the receive mode is set to <Manual>. (See <4. MAN/AUTO SWITCH> of "Menu Descriptions," on p. 8-6.)

5 Press [Stop/Reset] to return to the standby display.

NOTE

You can save the toner consumption when printing out the received documents. (See Chapter 10, “Machine Settings,” in the User's Guide.)

Receiving Faxes Automatically: FaxOnly Mode

If you want to select <FaxOnly>, check the following:

Select This Mode If:

you have a dedicated telephone line for fax use only.

you only want to receive faxes automatically with the machine.

You Will Need to:

set <FaxOnly>. (See "Setting the Receive Mode," on p. 5-1.)

connect the machine to a dedicated telephone line. (See "Connect telephone cable," in the Set-Up Sheet.)
