Troubleshooting

QIs any toner left in the cartridge?

AReplace the cartridge with a new one. For more information, see Chapter 8, "Maintenance," in the User’s Guide.

ASelect <KEEP PRINTING> in <TONER SUPPLY LOW> in <RX SETTINGS> in <FAX SETTINGS> of the Menu. With this setting, the machine will not store documents in the memory even if the toner has run out. (See <7. TONER SUPPLY LOW> of "Menu Descriptions," on p. 8-6.)

QIs the correct paper loaded in the cassette?

AMake sure paper is loaded in the cassette. For more information, see Chapter 2, "Paper Handling," in the User’s Guide.

ALoad the correct paper size or change <PAPER SIZE> in <PAPER SETTINGS> of the Menu. For more information, see the following:

Chapter 2, "Paper Handling," in the User’s Guide

Chapter 5, "Copying," in the User’s Guide

Faxed images are blotched or uneven.

QAre the telephone lines in proper condition? Or do you have a good connection?

AECM (Error Correction Mode) for sending/receiving should eliminate such problems. However, if the telephone lines are in poor condition, you may have to try again. Then call the sender to resend the document.

QIs the sending fax machine functioning properly?

AThe sending fax machine usually determines the fax's quality. Call the sender and have them make sure the scanning glass of their fax machine is clean.

Cannot receive a fax using ECM (Error Correction Mode).

QDoes the sending fax machine support ECM?

AIf the sending fax machine does not support ECM, the document is received in the normal mode without error checking.
