Frequently-asked questions

The following is a list of possible situa tions tha t ma y a rise d uring the
use of your c omputer. Easy answers and solutions are provided for
each one.

I pressed the power switch and opened the display, but the computer

does not start or boot-up.

Look at the Power indicator (refer to Ind ic a tors on page 11):
If it is not lit, no p owe r is b e ing a p p lie d to the c omp ute r. C he c k
the fo llowing :
If you are running on ba ttery power, it ma y be low and una ble
to p owe r the c o mp ute r. C o nne c t the AC a d a p te r to re c ha rg e
the ba ttery pa c k.
Ma ke sure tha t the AC ada pter is plugged in properly to the
computer and to the power outlet.
If it is lit, c he c k the following :
If the Sleep indicator is lit, the computer is in Sleep mode.
Press a ny ke y or ta p on the touc hpa d to resume .
Is a non-bootable (non-system) diskette in the floppy drive?
Remove or repla c e it with a system diskette a nd press Ctrl-Alt-
Del to restart the system.
The opera ting system files ma y be dama ged or missing. Insert the
startup disk you c rea ted during Windows setup into the floppy
drive and press Ctrl-Alt-Del to resta rt the syste m. This will
dia gnose your system a nd ma ke nec essary fixes.

Nothing appears on the screen.

The c o m p u te rs power management system a utoma tic a lly blanks the
sc reen to sa ve power. Press any key to turn the display bac k on.
If pressing a key does not turn the display bac k on, two things might
be the c ause:
The brightness level might be too low. Press Fn-
(inc rease) and
Fn-
(decrease) to adjust the brightness level.
The displa y d e vic e might be se t to a n e xterna l monitor. Press the
displa y toggle hot ke y Fn-F5 to toggle the displa y ba c k to the
computer.
