Starting and Pausing a Measurement

AGILENT 35670A

Supplemental Operator’s Guide

Press 50 then the [RPM] softkey (F1).

Then specify the total number of spectra to be collected (15):

Press the [Active Trace] hardkey.

Select the [B] softkey (F2).

Press the [Disp Format] hardkey.

Select the [WATERFALL SETUP] softkey (F8).

Select the [WATERFALL STEPS] softkey (F8).

Enter 15 and then press the [ENTER] softkey (F1).

When Start is pressed, spectra will be acquired as soon as the tachometer reaches 1000 RPM, and every 50 RPM thereafter until 15 spectra have been measured.

Starting and Pausing a Measurement

To start a waterfall measurement, press the yellow [Start] hardkey. To pause waterfall at any moment, press the yellow [Pause/Cont] hardkey. A measurement can be continued by pressing the yellow [Pause/Cont] hardkey again. The ability to pause a machinery run-up measurement allows the user to capture and observe critical data, such as a vibration resonance build-up over a certain rpm range.

Scaling the Display

Because a waterfall contains so much spectral information, it is often desirable to eliminate unwanted data from view, such as the noise floor, so that the critical data can be examined and compared. This is readily accomplished with display scaling. To scale the waterfall data acquired from Track 31 of the AGILENT Dynamic Signals II CD:

Press the [Active Trace] hardkey.

Press the [B] softkey (F2).

Press the [Scale] hardkey.

Press the [TOP REFERENCE] softkey (F1).

Press 5 then [ENTER].

Press the [Y PER DIV (DECADES)] softkey (F6).

Press 4 then [ENTER].

Mechanical resonances at around 4170 RPM should become clearly visible with these scaling parameters.
