Set up triggering on Channel 1 to 5% of range:

Press the [Trigger] hardkey.

Press the [CHANNEL 1 2 3 4] softkey (F3) until 1 is highlighted.

Press the [TRIGGER SETUP] softkey (F6)

Press the [CHANNEL LEVEL] softkey (F1)

Enter 5 then press the [PERCENT (%)] softkey (F4).

Press the [ALL CHANNELS] softkey (F8).

Press the [CHANNEL * DELAY] softkey (F9).

Enter -0.01 then press the [S] softkey (F1).

Mount the accelerometers on top of each other or very close together on a light test structure, then:

Press the yellow [Start] hardkey.

Tap the structure in the area around the two accelerometers to trigger a measurement.

If the measurement overloaded, then tap again after the range has increased. Tap again until a trace is not overloaded.

Press the [Marker] hardkey.

Toggle the [COUPLED ON OFF] softkey (F2) until ON is highlighted.

Examine the two time traces with the coupled markers to determine if the accelerometers are in phase or out of phase.

Note whether the accelerometers are in phase or out of phase. The function to determine differential amplitude depends on this relationship.

Measuring Amplitudes, Differential Amplitude, and Phase

For machinery motion measurements, one display setup can show:
