Troubleshooting and Maintenance

Error Messages

You may occasionally encounter a difficulty with your machine or telephone line. If this happens, your machine often identifies the problem and displays an error message. The list below explains the most common error messages.

ERROR MESAGE	CAUSE	ACTION

CHECK PAPER	The paper is jammed in the machine.	See “Clearing Jams” on page 67 .

CHECK PAPER	The FAX/MFC is out of paper or	Refill the paper or remove the paper

PRINTER FAULT	The print head has overheated.	Unplug the machine and wait 30
		minutes for it to cool.

		still get a scanner error, contact
		Brother dealer for service.
