PCI Express Cards

Your computer supports one PCI Express x16 card and one PCI Express x1 card.

If you are installing or replacing a PCI Express card, follow the procedures in the next section.

If you are removing but not replacing a card, see "Removing a PCI Express Card" on page 80.

If you are installing or replacing a PCI card, see "Installing a PCI Card" on page 71.

If you are replacing a card, remove the current driver for the card from the operating system.

Installing a PCI Express Card

1Follow the procedures in "Before You Begin" on page 61.

2Remove the computer cover (see "Removing the Computer Cover" on page 63).

3Gently push the release tab on the card retention door from the inside to pivot the door open. The door is hinged and will remain in the open position (see "Installing a PCI Card" on page 71 for an illustration of the card retention door).

4If your computer includes a card retention mechanism to secure the x16 card in place from the top:

a Pivot the mechanism upward and gently squeeze in on the sides to release the mechanism from the two tab slots holding it in place.

b Set the retention mechanism aside.

5If you are installing a new card, remove the filler bracket to create a card-slot opening, then continue with step 7.
