The SdKfz 231 heavy eight-wheeled armored car was manufactured from 1937 to 1942. It mounted one heavy machine gun and one light machine gun in a rotating turret, and carried a four-man crew.

Variants and successors included radio communica- tions, antitank, and assault vehicles.
