Removing a 5 1/4-Inch Accessible Device

1.Remove the system unit cover and front panel (see “Removing the Cover” and “Removing the Front Panel”).

Before removing the cover, turn off system power and unplug the system power cable. Power is removed only when the power cable is unplugged.

2.Tag and unplug the power and signal cables connected to the device.

3.Press the tabs on either side of the device inward to unlatch the device from the chassis (see the following figure).

4.Slide the device out of the accessible device cage in the chassis.

Releasing a 5 1/4-Inch Device

5.Remove the rails from the old device (see “Removing or Installing Device Rails”).

If the bay is to remain empty, see step 6 only. If you are installing a new device, skip to step 7.

6.If the bay is to remain empty:

!Store the rails in the empty bay (see “Storing and Retrieving Unused Rails”).

!Place the bay cover over the bay (see “Replacing a Bay Cover”).

!Replace the front panel (see “Replacing the Front Panel”).

!Replace the cover (see “Replacing the Cover”).

7.If you are installing a new device in the bay:

!If necessary, place the rails on the new device (see “Removing or Installing Device Rails”).

!Install the device (see “Installing a 5 1/4-Inch Accessible Device”).
