If you choose the "SURPLUS - NO" setting, the fax machine will not print the surplus text.

TO ENABLE/DISABLE SILENT RECEPTION

In the "AUTOMATIC", "PHONE/FAX" and "TAD/FAX" reception modes, you can set up the fax machine to receive documents without any rings being emit- ted when an incoming call is received.

When this function is enabled, the behaviour of the fax machine and cordless phone depends on the reception mode selected and the caller:

in "AUTOMATIC" and "TAD/FAX" modes, neither the fax machine nor the cordless phone will ever ring when an incoming call is received;

in "PHONE/FAX" mode, when an incoming call is re- ceived, the fax machine and cordless phone will only not ring if the call is coming from a fax machine. If the call is coming from a telephone, the fax machine will beep instead of ringing, to prompt you to lift the handset (while the cordless phone will ring in the ordi- nary way).

TO DISPLAY THE CALLER ID

This function, which may be activated by the telephone company on request by the user, is only available in some countries and conforms to the ETSI ETS 300 778-1 standard.

This function tells you immediately who is calling. In this way, you will be able to decide whether to an- swer the call or not.

When this function is enabled, if the fax machine and cordless phone are in stand-by mode, whenever a call is received, they always shows one of the fol- lowing items of information:

number or name of the correspondent who called you;

PRIVATE: if the correspondent has chosen not to re- veal his identity to you;

UNAVAILABLE: if the correspondent is connected to a telephone exchange that does not support this service. If you are programming your fax machine and, when an incoming call is received, want to know who is

calling you, you must press the key before answering the call.

It may however happen, if you are connected to a par- ticular kind of telephone network, that the number of the caller is not displayed on the fax machine. If this hap- pens, call your local customer engineering service cen- tre.

The fax machine is already set up to display the caller ID. You may however set it up not to display it, as follows:
