Entering Characters Using AlphabetMode

1. Selectthe Alphabet mode. (See “Selecting a TextInput
Mode”on page 29.)
2. Press the corresponding keys repeatedly until the correct
letter appears. (For example, to enter the word “Bill,”
press twice, three times, three times, and
three times again.) (If you make a mistake, press
toerase a single character. Press and hold to erase an
entire word.)
By default, the firstletter of an entry is capitalized and the
following letters are lowercased. After a character is entered,
thecursor automatically advances to the nextspace after two
seconds or when you enter a character on a differentkey.
Characters scroll in the following order:
Tip The initial letters of words following spaces can be either
upper- or lowercase depending on shiftmode. You can change
the shiftmode by pressing *(Shift).
