5.8.3.Variable Extract

General introduction

The Variable Extract process allows you to extract one or more specified

 

fields out of a variable. Up to 20 fields can be parsed in one single

 

variable extraction process.

 

Your input variable must have a separator between fields for the

 

Variable Extract process to work.

 

To extract data based upon the position of data in a variable, use the

 

Variable Substring process.

 

 

Variable Extract

To extract a field from a variable, proceed as follows:

 

1 Add the process Variable Extract to your label program

2In the Value box, select the input variable from which you want to extract fields.

3In the Separator box, select the separator used between the fields in the input variable.

The left-hand column of the Result Variable table shows the number of the field to be extracted from the input variable.

4Identify the field numbers of the fields you want to extract from the input variable.

5 Click

in the corresponding entry to open the Variables dialogue

box.

 

6Select or create the variable in which you want to put the extracted field contents and click OK.

7Repeat steps 4 – 6 for each field to be extracted

8Click OK

If you change your mind about an assignment, simply right click the

Result Variable entry to get a list of edit options for that entry: Copy,

Cut, Paste, Delete, and Variables.
