Loading media

Follow these guidelines when using the manual feed slot:

•Load only one sheet at a time.

•To achieve the best possible print quality, use only high-quality media that is designed for use in laser printers. See Media guidelines for information on selecting types of media.

•Load media with the top edge going into the manual feed slot first. (Letterhead goes face-down.)

1Use the marks above the slot to adjust the guide for standard sizes of media. For an odd size, adjust the guide after the media is loaded. Place the guide to rest gently against the left side of the media. Do not force the guide against the media or it could be damaged.

2Load one sheet of media. Load the media so it fits flush with the right side of the manual feed slot.

Load an envelope with the flap up and to the left. The orientation of the envelope is the same as when the multipurpose feeder is loaded. For an illustration, see page 56.

3Push the media in until it stops. The printer pulls the media in farther.
