Using the MIDI terminals

MIDI stands for “Musical Instrument Digi- tal Interface”. It is a way of communicating instructions between MIDI instruments. It is not a method of transmitting sound. With MIDI, you can use the piano keyboard to play another MIDI instrument, such as a YAMAHA synthesizer, or you can play the digital piano part of your Silent Series piano from another instrument.

This manual will not attempt to explain all about MIDI; it will only deal with the sub- ject insofar as it affects the Silent Series piano. If you want to know more, there are many excellent books on the market which explain how to use MIDI to its full extent.

If you want to use your piano with other MIDI instruments, you must have the appropriate MIDI cables (available from most musical instrument dealers).

MIDI steht für “Musical Instrument Digital Interface”. Diese digitale Schnittstelle stellt einen Kommunikationsweg für MIDI-Instru- mente zum gegenseitigen Austausch von Anweisungen dar, der Klang selbst wird nicht übertragen. Über MIDI kann Ihr Piano der “Silent”-Seriedazu benutzt werden, andere MIDI-Instrumente wie z. B. einen YAMAHA- Synthesizer zu spielen, Sie können aber auch das Digitalpiano Ihres Pianos der “Silent”- Serie von einem anderen MIDI-Instrument aus spielen.

Diese Anleitung ist nicht dazu gedacht, alles über MIDI zu erklären, sie behandelt nur die Möglichkeiten des Pianos der “Silent”-Serie.

Wenn Sie mehr darüber erfahren möchten, gibt es viele hervorragende Bücher, die MIDI aus- führlich beschreiben.

Utilisation des connecteurs

MIDI

MIDI est l’acronyme anglais de “Musical Ins- trument Digital Interface” (Interface numéri- que pour instruments de musique). Il s’agit d’une norme visant à échanger des instruc- tions entre des instruments MIDI. Elle ne con- siste pas à échanger des sons. Grâce à la norme MIDI, le clavier de votre piano peut être utilisé pour jouer un autre instrument MIDI tel qu’un synthétiseur YAMAHA ou pour piloter le piano numérique de votre piano de la série “Silent” à partir d’un autre instru- ment.

Nous ne tenterons pas dans ce manuel d’expliquer tout sur la norme MIDI; nous ne l’abordons que pour son incidence sur le piano de la série “Silent”. Si vous souhaitez en savoir plus sur le système MIDI et toutes ses possibilités, de nombreux livres d’excellente qualité sont disponibles sur le marché.
