Conducting a HotSync operation via modem
You can use a modem, such as the Palm Modem®accessory,to
synchronizeyour handheld computer when you are away fromyour
personalcomputer.
Note: The first HotSync operation must be local, using the cradle.
After that, you can perform a modem HotSync operation.
Toperform aHo tSync operation via modem you must complete the
following steps:
Connecta modemto y our personal computer
Configure the Palm Desktop software for use with your modem
Connect a modem to your handheld computer
Configure the Connection Preferences on your handheld
computer for use with your modem
Preparing your personal computer
Therea rea few steps you must perform to prepare your personal
computer for a modem HotSync operation. Be sure to perform these
steps before you leave your office so that your computer is re ady to
receive a call from your handheld computer.
To prepare your personal computer for a modem HotSync operation:
1. Confirm that the computer modem is connected and turned on,
andthat no communicat ions applications, such as fax or telephony
software, are running on a COM port.
Note: Makesure the personal com puter is disconnected from all
online services, such as America Online (AOL) and
CompuServe. This helps to avoid conflicts with the
COM port.
2. Start HotSync Manager if it is not already running, andfrom the
HotSync Manager menu, choo se Modem.
3. Adjust the following options as needed.
