NOTE: Some software may cause the system time to speed up or slow down. If the system seems to operate normally except for the time kept in the System Setup program, the problem may be caused by software rather than by a defective battery.
Troubleshooting Power Supply
Problem
•Power-supply fault indicator is blinking amber.
Action
CAUTION: Many repairs may only be done by a certified service technician. You should only perform troubleshooting and simple repairs as authorized in your product documentation, or as directed by the online or telephone service and support team. Damage due to servicing that is not authorized by Dell is not covered by your warranty. Read and follow the safety instructions that came with the product.
1Turn off the system and attached peripherals, and disconnect the system from the electrical outlet.
2Open the system. See "Opening the System" on page 41.
3Check that the voltage selection switch on the back panel of the system is set properly. See "Power Supply Indicators" on page 15.
NOTICE: Setting the voltage selection switch to an improper setting can damage your system.
4Ensure that the power supply is properly installed by removing and reinstalling it. See "Installing the Power Supply" on page 70.
NOTE: After installing a power supply, allow several seconds for the system to recognize the power supply and to determine if it is working properly. The power indicator turns green to signify that the power supply is functioning properly.
5If the problem is resolved, close the system. See "Closing the System" on page 41.
If the problem persists, remove the faulty power supply. See "Removing the Power Supply" on page 69.
6Install a new power supply. See "Installing the Power Supply" on page 70. If the problem persists, see "Getting Help" on page 107.
