ThissectiondescribeshowtoinstallaUTPstraightthroughcablewithRJ45connectorsand
optionaladapterstoconnectaPC,aVTseriesterminal,oramodemtoanEnterasys Networks
moduletoaccessLocalManagement.Thissectionalsoprovidesthepinoutassignmentsofthe
adapters.

What Is Needed

•UTPstraightthroughcableterminatedatbothendswithRJ45connectors
•RJ45toDB25femaleadapter
•RJ45toDB25maleadapter
UsingaUTPstraightthroughcableandanRJ45toDB9adapter,youcanconnectproducts
equippedwithanRJ45COMporttoanIBMorcompatiblePCrunningaVTseriesemulation
softwarepackage.
UsingaUTPstraightthroughcableandanRJ45toDB25femaleadapter,youcanconnect
productsequippedwithanRJ45COMporttoaVTseriesterminalorVTtypeterminalsrunning
emulationprogramsfortheVTseries.
UsingaUTPstraightthroughcableandanRJ45toDB25maleadapter,youcanconnectproducts
equippedwithanRJ45COMporttoaHayescompatiblemodemthatsupports9600 baud.

Connecting to an IBM PC or Compatible Device

ToconnectanIBMPCorcompatibledevice,runningtheVTterminalemulation,toan
Enterasys NetworksmoduleCOMport(Figure 412),proceedasfollows:
1. ConnecttheRJ45connectoratoneendoftheUTPstraightthroughcabletothe
communicationsCOMportontheEnterasys Networksmodule.(TheCOMportisalsoknown
asaConsoleport.)
2. PlugtheRJ45connectorattheotherendoftheUTPstraightthroughcableintoan
RJ45toDB9adapter.
3. ConnecttheRJ45toDB9adaptertothecommunicationsportontheIBMPC.
4. TurnonthePCandsetthefollowingparametersonyourVTemulationpackage:
