4.4.1 Using the Clamp-on Ferrites

Clamp-onferrites are provided with this product for the use of improving its
electromagnetic (EM) immunity in environments of excessiveEM interference.
During EMCtesting we found that ferrites clamped around the probe cables
and powercord reduced the risk that EM interference affects measurements.
Therefore, we recommend that the clamp-on ferrites provided (StewardP/N
28A2025-0A2) be used on thecables of probes attached to this product, espe-
ciallyif it the product is used near sources of EM interference such as heavy in-
dustrialequipment.
Toattach a ferrite to a probe cable, make a loop in the cable near the connector
and clampthe ferrite around half of the loop as shown in Figure 1. The ferrite
can be easilysnapped open and moved to a new probe when needed.

4.5 Connect the Power Source

The 1529 drawspower from either a 15-volt DC power supply (the included
ACadapter) connected to the DC input or the internal re-chargeable battery
pack. Touse the AC adapter, plug it into a wall outlet of the appropriate voltage
and insertthe DC plug into the DC power input of the 1529 (see Figure 3 on
page 18.)

4.6 Switch the Power On

Poweris turned on and off with the power switch located on the top right cor-
ner of theback panel. To switch the power on, toggle the power switch to the
‘ON’position. To switch power off, toggle the powerswitch to the ‘OFF’ posi-
tion. The instrumenttakes a few seconds to power up, initialize, and begin nor-
mal operation. A self-test is performed displaying the channelconfiguration
and statusof the system, calibration, GPIB, memory, and buttons. If the ther-
mometer readoutcalibration has expired, the user is notified and must press the
