wired networking basics

Networking allows one computer to send information to and receive information from another. A wired (Ethernet) network is the most common type of local area network (LAN). It is simply a collection of two or more computers, printers, and other devices linked by Ethernet cables.

To connect your computer and HP PSC to a network with an Ethernet cable, each must have an Ethernet adapter (also known as a network interface card, or NIC). The HP PSC 2500 Series uses an internal Ethernet adapter that supports both 10 Mbps and 100 Mbps Ethernet networks. If you are purchasing, or have purchased, a NIC, make sure it can operate at either speed.

The following graphic shows an example of an Ethernet network with several computers and an HP PSC each connected to a hub, switch, or router.
