Getting Help for the Boot Console User Interface Commands

You may issue many di￿erent commands in the boot administration mode. F or a complete listing, at the BOOT_ADMIN> prompt type one of these commands:

To get help for a particular command, t ype the follo wing at the BOOT_ADMIN> prompt:

where command name is the name of one of the listed commands.

Booting the Model 742i

Usually, you start your Model 742i in Normal Mode b y turning it on and waiting for HP-UX to boot automatically . However, in some cases, y ou may not want the usual sequence to occur.

For example, you may want to start your system from an operating system

 

that is stored on a device that is di￿eren t from your usual boot device. If

 

your normal operating system k ernel or the disk on whic h it resides becomes

damaged or unusable, you may wish to boot from a di￿eren t disk or perhaps

 

another type of device, such as a DDS-format tape driv e.
