Logging In and Out

 

Once HP-UX is running on y our system, y ou must log in. The process of

 

logging in is one of the w ays that HP-UX prev ents unauthorized persons from

 

using your system. This is especially important if y our system is attached to a

 

network.

Logging In with HP-UX

 

If you are not using HP VUE, then a command-line login prompt appears after

 

boot:

 

login:

1.Type your login name (or root).

2.Press 4Return5.

If you haven't yet set a passw ord, you will get a a system prompt (\ #" for root, or $ for user), and y ou can begin using the system.

3.Otherwise, t ype your password when the system giv es the following prompt:

Password:

4.Press 4Return5. The system prompt (\ #" or \$") appears and y ou can use the system.

Logging Out with HP-UX

If you are not using HP VUE, y ou can use the lock command to temporarily leave your system (while lea ving processes running). If y ou want to log out of your current work session entirely, use the following command:

exit
