Resetting the Model 742i

The act of resetting y our system causes it to restart completely . It's similar to turning the system o￿ and then back on again.

To reset your system, t ype the following at the BOOT_ADMIN> prompt:

reset 4Return5

The same task is also accomplished b y pressing the 4Reset5 switch on the front panel of the Model 742i.

Displaying and Setting the Real-Time Clock

It is usually a good idea to set the real-time cloc k in your system with the HP-UX date command. That command con tains special safeguards that can help you to avoid disruption of time-related processes (lik e those controlled by the cron command). But y ou may also set the cloc k from within the boot administration mode.

To display the current setting of the real-time cloc k, type the following at the prompt:

date 4Return5

Your system reports the information in this form:

Mon Jul 1 14:55:05 UTC (19:91:7:1:14:44:5)

To set the real-time cloc k, type the following at the BOOT_ADMIN> prompt:

date century:year:month:day:hour:minute:se cond 4Return5

For example, to set the cloc k to July 1, 1991, 2:44:05 PM, UTC, t ype the following at the BOOT_ADMIN> prompt:

date 19:91:7:1:14:44:5 4Return5

The boot administration mode date command only understands

 

Coordinated Univ ersal Time (UTC). You must compute UTC

 

relative to y our own time zone to get the correct v alue for

 

hours, and, in some time zones, minutes .
