Online Sources of Information

HP-UX is designed so that y ou can access many sources of information without leaving your system. Some of these information sources are a vailable through a shell command line.

Man Pages: The information on HP-UX whic h is found in HP-UX Reference is also on line and accessible b y clicking on the Toolbox button at the righ t of your Front Panel, or by entering on a command line man command , where command is the name of the HP-UX command y ou want to get information on. If you're not sure of the command name y ou can enter man -kkeyword , where keyword is a likely topic w ord to search on. This will result in a display listing commands ha ving the keyword in their description.

There are also a variety of ￿les on y our HP-UX system whic h contain version-speci￿c information whic h will be useful in administering and con￿guring cards and devices for y our version of HP-UX. Among these are the following:

Release Notes: This is the online v ersion of the Release Notes whic h came with your system. It con tains all the late information, undocumen ted changes and bug ￿xes for y our release of HP-UX. Release Notes is found in the /etc/newconfig directory, and may be named by its release number, e.g., 90RelNotes , for HP-UX 9.0.

Terminfo: The directory /usr/lib/terminfo contains subdirectories containing information about terminal con￿gurations, indexed b y the ￿rst character of the terminal name. F or example, to ￿nd con￿guration information about the hp98546, y ou can look in /usr/lib/terminfo/h for a listing of information ￿les for all the terminal names beginning with \h".

These ￿lenames also constitute all the acceptable argumen ts for setting the TERM variable, in case y ou are using a non-default terminal con￿guration.
