Installing the RAM Replacement P airs

Caution

A static charge of almost 40,000 volts can be generated on a

 

carpeted ￿oor. This exceeds the limits of these RAM boards

 

and can cause unsuccessful operation or damage.

 

Integrated circuits on prin ted circuit boards can be damaged

 

by electrostatic disc harge. Use the follo wing precautions before

 

working with the Model 742i board or the RAM modules:

 

 

Use the grounding wrist strap supplied with this upgrade.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Follow the instructions prin ted on the strap's pac kage.

 

 

Do not wear clothing subject to static c harge buildup, suc h

 

 

 

 

 

 

as wool or synthetic materials.

 

 

Do not handle integrated circuits in carpeted areas.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Do not remo ve the device from its an ti-static bag until you

 

 

 

 

 

 

are ready to install it.

 

 

Avoid touching circuit leads as m uch as possible.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

1.Before you start:

a.Shut down the operating system.

b.Turn o￿ the host workstation or the card cage po wer.

A2. When you are facing the fron t panel of the Model 742i, use a ￿at-blade screwdriver to remove the four screws at the corners of the panel.

3.Spread the two handles in the fron t panel. This will ha ve the action of extracting the Model 742i board out of its rear connector.

4.Pull the board out of the w orkstation or cage and place it on a static-free surface.
