To put your 2-Way Injector or 2-Way Injector+ into Refresh Mode, first attach the Injector to your Scanner with a RJ-45 or 36-pin cable, whichever is appropriate for your equipment (you may need to use an adapter if your units have different connector types). Attach the Scanner to the PC with a DB 9 serial cable. Attach AC Adapters to both the Injector and the Scanner, and power both units on. At the PC’s DOS prompt, type:
PENTA -2REFRESH -C1 (for COM1, or -C2 for COM2) and press Enter. The Injector is now in discharge mode, indicated by the alternate flashing of the Pass and Fail LED indicators. When the battery has discharged, the Injector will switch to recharge mode (indicated by the Charging light). To refresh the Scanner and the Injector batteries at the same time, follow the instructions above for connecting the Injector to the Scanner, and the Scanner to the PC. Attach AC Adapters to both the Injector and the Scanner, and power both units on. Put the Injector into refresh mode first, by typing:
PENTA -2REFRESH -C1 (for COM1, or -C2 for COM2) and press Enter.
Now, put the Scanner into refresh mode by typing:
PENTA -REFRESH -C1 (for COM1, or -C2 for COM2) and press Enter.
Both units will discharge and recharge as described above.
Once the units are in Refresh Mode, you can disconnect the DB-9 serial cable. Keep the units plugged in to the AC adapters. The units will discharge and recharge in approximately 15-20 hours. For best results, do not remove the AC adapter until the battery is fully charged. On the PentaScanner+, the battery is fully charged when the “Charging Battery” message is no longer displayed on the screen. On the 2-WayInjector+/2-Way Injector, the battery is fully charged when the Charging Indicator LED is flashing.
Super Injector+/Super Injector Battery
The Super Injector+ and Super Injector are powered by three AA alkaline batteries. (Be sure to use only AA alkaline batteries in the Injector. Other battery types are not supported.) To remove the batteries, move the battery door latch forward and remove the battery door.
The Injector battery life varies depending on usage and battery quality. On average, the batteries will withstand testing of more than 500 cables. Low battery detection is reported in several ways:
∙The Injector Status Indicator blinks slowly (approximately once per second) instead of normal rapid blinking.
∙Press the Extended Functions key and select Injector Info to display the battery status.
∙The Scanner checks the Injector batteries before running selected tests and before calibrating the Injector, and displays a warning message if the Injector batteries are low.
Test Connectors
The PentaScanner+, 2-Way Injector+ and Super Injector+ have 36-pin connectors. The PentaScanner, PentaScanner Cable Admin, 2-Way Injector and Super Injector have Modular
8 (RJ-45) connectors:
