Note
Be careful not to move the camera when you press the shutter butt on .
Do not cover the f lash or the AF ass ist lamp with your f ingers or other ob jects.
Do not touch the front of the lens.
When the camera identi fies the optimum scene, the icon of the scene conc erned is
displayed in blue fo r 2 seconds, after which its color changes to the usual red.
[¦] is set if none of the scenes are applic able, and the standard settings ar e set.
If a tripod is used, for ins tance, and the camera has j udged that camera shake is minimal when
the scene mode has been identified as [ ], the shutter speed will be set to a maximum of
8 seconds.Take care not to move the camera while taking pictures.
An optimum scene for the specified subject will be chosen when set to AF tracking (P63).
Face detection
When [ ] or [ ] is selected, the camera automat ical l y de tect s a pers on’s face, and it will
adjust the focus and exposure (P62).
Note
Due to conditions such as the ones bel ow, a different scene may be identified for the sam e subj ect.

To take pictures in an intend ed scene, it is recom mended that you take pictures in the
appropriate recording mod e.
The Backlight Compensation
Backlight refers to whe n light comes from the ba ck of a subject.
In this case, the subj ect will become dark, s o this function compens ates the backlight by
brightening the whole of the picture automatically.
It is possible to set the focus to the specified subject. Focus will k eep following the subject
automatically even if it moves. Refer to P63 for details.
Set the [AFTRACKING] in the [REC] mode menu to [ON].
([ ] is displayed on t he screen.)
Bring the subject to the AF tracking frame, and press 4 to lock the subject.
AF tracking frame will turn yellow.
An optimum scene for the specified subject will be chosen.
Press 4 again to rele as e.
