Taking Pictures using the Built-in Flash
Set the flash to match the recording.
Press 1 [‰].
Press 3/4 to select a mode.
•You can also press 1 [‰] to select.
•For information about flash settings that can b e selected, refer to
“Available flash settings by recording mode”. (P38)
Press [MENU/SET].
•You can also press the shutter button halfw ay t o f i ni sh .
•The menu screen disappears after about 5 seconds. At this tim e, the selected item is
automatically set.
¢The flash is activated twice. The subject should not move until the second flash is
activated. Interval until the second flash depends on the brightness of the subject.

Do not cover it w ith your finge rs or other obje cts.

It is activated once before the actual recording to reduce t he re d-eye
phenomenon (eyes of the subject appearing re d in the picture) and the n
activated again for the actual rec ording.
•Use this when you take pictures of peop le in low lighting condition s.

The flash is activated every tim e regardless of the recording conditions.
•Use this when your subject is back-lit or under fluorescent light.
•The flash setting is set to [ ] only when you set [PARTY] or
[CANDLE LIGHT] in sc ene mode. (P44)

Slow sync./Red-eye
reduction¢
If you take a picture with a dark background landscape, this feature will
slow the shutter speed when the flash is activated so that the dark
background landscape w ill become bright. Si multaneously it reduces the
red-eye phenomenon .
•Use this when you take pictures of people in front of a dark
background.

The flash is not activated in an y re cording conditions.
•Use this when you take pictures in plac es where the use of the
flash is not permitted.
