Tributary DSU Addressing
Tributary
DSU addresses are user
-definable, but take
care that their addresses are unique on a multipoint circuit.
If two tributaries ar
e assigned the same addr
ess, you will
not be able to communicate with either one
.
The control DSU accesses its tributary by specifying
the tributary’
s address.
The 6700 Series NMS accesses the DSU via its
network address.
T
o access a tributary DSU,
the NMS
first addresses the control, then the tributary
. An address
issued from the NMS takes the format of control
channel/control network address/tributary network
address. This is called link-level network addr
essing.
Figure 2-6 shows an example of DSU and DBM
addressing, as well as link-level network addressing.
Refer to Chapter 4 to learn how to set the DSU’s
network address.
